PERLITE

The name Perlite  comes from the word perle, which means pearl, because when  some Perlite types are broken, small spheres with pearly shine are obtained. In the early 20th century, it was noticed that some rocks containing  perlite  expand when heated rapidly.  It has been understood by the studies carried out on this that the glassy volcanic rock Perlite , which has a pearly shine, amorphous structure, can expand about 20 times its original volume when heated to the softening temperature range of 760-1090°C.

This expansion takes place thanks to the water contained in the untreated rock. When the perlite  ore is heated rapidly, the water starts to evaporate and this causes the softening of the stone to expand.

They create the distinctive and unique lightness physical properties of Expanded Perlite , which forms tiny glass-like bubbles  . Perlite  mine is an acidic volcanic rock that erupted from volcanic centers as a result of volcanic activities or that occurs locally as domed uplifts.

Expanded perlite is the state of perlite that has grown up to 20 times its grain volume as a result of losing its body water and bursting due to flame shock at high temperatures   . Expanded perlite  can be produced in various grain size ranges according to the sector in which it is used. The most important perlite  producing countries are Turkey, Greece and the USA. It is estimated that the world's perlite reserves are approximately 700 million tons. Turkey has approximately 70% of the world's perlite reserves.

Perlite, with its total porosity over 90% and aeration porosity of around 60%, provides aeration of the soil and regulates its drainage.

Although the application area of raw perlite is small and limited, the  application area of expanded perlite is many and varied. Mainly, the  usage area of perlite  depends on its physical and chemical properties. Expanded perlite  is a heat resistant, excellent heat and sound insulator and a very light material. Perlite mixed plasters  have many advantages over traditional plasters due to their low thermal conductivity, high sound absorption, low bulk density and fire resistance   .
